When Does the FAFSA Open for 2022-23 Applicants?

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid -- otherwise known as the FAFSA -- is a form completed by students and families to determine what, if any, need-based financial aid they qualify for through the federal government.

When Does the FAFSA Open?

The form is required to be completed each year. For those applying as first-year students for the 2022-23 school year, the FAFSA will be open October 1, 2021.

All returning students will be able to complete the form as early as October 1 as well. Incoming first-year students tend to have earlier deadline requirements for the FAFSA than returning students.

What is the FAFSA Deadline?

For students that are applying Early Decision or Early Action, the FAFSA deadline could be as early as November. For those that are applying Regular Decision, the deadline is likely to be after the first of the year.

At Financial Aid Coach, we provide several services around the FAFSA. We can help families fill out and submit the form more entirely. We can also review the FAFSA once the family has drafted and saved the form. Either way, we want to make sure that you are completing the form in a way that is not negatively impacting your financial aid eligibility.

If you’re interested in discussing these services, you can contact us through our online form or email financialaidcoach@gmail.com.
